Aloha from Honolulu

Post by nurflugel9 »

I have had my black/black and tan 1984 Pininfarina Azzurra for couple of years now. It is originally a California car that I bought on bringatrailer.com from an owner in Texas. It already had the original engine rebuilt with 10:1 pistons, a new convertible top and some other work done on it by Allison Automotive in Upland, California, so after I bought it I had it transported there. I had them install stainless steel older style bumpers, had the seats and doors panels redone, had the side marker lights deleted and replaced them and the turn signals with LED lights plus added a big wood steering wheel, Halogen headlights and air conditioning. I bought it to keep me busy after my wife died and it has done that. Still fixing minor things that crop up, but love to drive it around the island as a second car (My first car is 2014 Fiat 500L Trekking). I love the early 1960s lines of it and so am retromodding it to give it more of the feel of the early 1960s with more chrome/bright fixtures, for example, stainless steel wiper arms and chrome washer nozzles instead of black ones. Future plans include fixing all of the little things that don't work, adding sound/heat insulation panels, removing the black paint from the aluminum grill and repainting it with a chrome look paint and doing the same to the plastic grill under the cowl. The tropical sun is relentless, so I keep it covered when it is parked in the sun and am replacing plastic parts with metal whenever possible.

Sounds like a nice car and fun project. It’s great that you have the ability to tinker and fix yourself as I’ve learned finding a competent spider technician is impossible in my county. I have a 75 that was done (in part) at allison’s too. Has much blacked out but I prefer the chrome as well. Good luck!
